I AM: About the Series

Get ready to join us for a remarkable 7-week journey where we dive into the "I AM" statements of Jesus. Each week, we'll explore one of these life-changing declarations and discover more about who Jesus is and what that means for us. From being the bread of life to the true vine, we're going to uncover the richness and depth of the gospel by looking through the lens of Jesus' self-revelation.

The whole point of this series is to get up close and personal with Jesus and to really know Him! By diving into these "I AM" statements, we'll go beyond head knowledge and let His identity shape ours. It's all about encountering the beauty of the gospel in the person of Jesus Christ. Get ready for a life-changing experience!

Reflection Questions

1. What is significant about Jesus saying, “I am?” What difference does that make in your life today?

2. What things, people, or situations feel like darkness in your life? How do you typically respond to darkness?

3. What false lights do you find yourself moving toward, in order to escape the darkness?

4. What does it mean to you to follow the light of the world? Are you doing this? How can you practically do this today?

5. What does it mean to you to be the light of the world? Are you doing this? How can you practically do this today?

1. What does it mean for today that Jesus says, “I am the door”?

2. Where do you need to be reminded that Jesus is the closed door that protects you?

3. Where do you need to be encouraged that Jesus is the open door that always receives you?

4. If Jesus is the only door that will bring salvation? What are the other ways you are looking for salvation?

5. What would it mean for you today that Jesus says he came to give you life abundantly?

  1. Do you ever hear the Good Shepherd calling your name?
  2. Have you entered through ‘The Door’ into Jesus’ Presence?
  3. Are you ‘doing life’ with His flock?
  4. Are you daily looking for and listening to your shepherd?
  5. Will you keep following as His sheep?

  2. What is the bread that perishes that you are presently pursuing?
  3. How has Jesus provided you with satisfaction?
  4. Explain how Jesus has provided security for your soul?
  5. Meditate on Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Ask Jesus to expose hidden sources of life, hope, and peace and replace it with trust in Him.

1. Where does it feel like Jesus is staying two days too long in your life like Martha and Mary? Where are the places in life right now you are saying to yourself in your community group “Life is hard!”
2. Where are the places in your life God is teaching you that you are not in control?
3. What are you doing with the questions that you cannot answer? Are you bringing them to Jesus?
4. What does the power of the resurrection mean in your life this week?
5. How does the hope of heaven give you perspective today?

  1. How do you respond to what was said about our “longing for home?”  Was your home growing up a place of security and love, or was it more negative?
  2. How do you respond to the truth that Jesus is preparing a home for you that is better than anything you could possibly dream up?
  3. How would you have answered the riddle about being in the cave and having to choose Christ or truth?
  4. Do you struggle with Jesus being the only way to the Father, to home?  Do you need more help in understanding and embracing this?
  5. Jesus says that he is “The Way, The Truth and The Life,” in order that our hearts would not be troubled. How does embracing this truth help your heart be “at ease?” That is, how does it help you experience peace in our hard and troubled world?  See John 14:25-27, and what Jesus says at the end of the chapter.

1. What is bearing fruit and how can you know if you are doing it?
2. If you had to pick, would you say your relationship with Jesus is distant, casual, or intimate?
3. Can you think of a difficult time that you can look back on and see that it was God pruning you, so that may bear more fruit?
4. What is the goal of abiding in Jesus? (Look at the text!)
5. What is something practical you could do this week to abide in Jesus instead of seeking to do things on your own strength?
